
I am a small business owner too!

Prior to founding Ben The Bookkeeper, I had successfully managed and ran my family's catering company for over 10 years. In that time, I had to learn and marshal a transformation from an entirely analog paper system to an updated digital system. From customer proposals to bookkeeping, everything needed to be revamped and digitized. Doing so allowed us to be able to spend more time on what we loved - building our brand, our customer experience, and making sure our clients and their events had our full attention - no more manually tracking everything!

In addition to my catering company, I was brought on to manage the books for a small family owned real estate investment firm. This experience allowed me to advance my knowledge and my passion in bookkeeping. I was able to diversify my learning to not just my business and the catering industry, but to other industries as well. When I first started with this company, I learned the importance of making sure everything is in the correct account in order to read the company’s financial statements accurately, and to better advise the business owners. I learned how to manage accounts with mortgages, capital improvements, class tracking, and more. Through better organization of the company accounts, I was able to provide suggestions for future expansion and expense opportunities.

As I gained experience, I found that I was able to utilize the new knowledge to more clearly educate my clients regarding their own business operations, like where their money was coming and going from so they could adjust their distributions and pay off their debts!
